What is an Advisory Opinion?

In accordance with W.S. 33-21-122 (c) (iii) of the Wyoming Nursing Practice Act the Wyoming State Board of Nursing can publish advisory opinions relative to whether the nursing procedures, policies and other practices of any agency, facility, institution or other organization that employs individuals licensed or certified under this act complies with the standards of nursing practice as defined in this act and board rules and regulations.

An advisory opinion adopted by the Board is an interpretation by the Board of what the law requires. While an advisory opinion is not law, it is more than a recommendation. In other words, an advisory opinion is an official opinion of the Wyoming State Board of Nursing regarding the practice of nursing as it relates to a specific standard of care.
